Gabriela Basterra

Gabriela Basterra teaches philosophy at New York University’s Departments of Comparative and Spanish & Portuguese Literatures. Her books include Seductions of Fate: Tragic Subjectivity, Ethics, Politics (2004), The Subject of Freedom: Kant, Levinas (2015), and the co-edited collective volumes Quel sujet du politique? (2010) and Specters of Kant in Twentieth-Century France (under contract). A former Director of Program at the Collège International de Philosophie (Paris) and the current Chair of the Department of Spanish & Portuguese at NYU, she is also actively involved in the art and practice of sailing.
