Marcia Cavell is a philosopher and psychoanalyst, the author of The Psychoanalytic Mind, from Freud to Philosophy (Harvard University Press), and most recently, Becoming A Subject, Reflections in Philosophy and Psychoanalysis (The Clarendon Press). As an earlier resident of New York, she was an Associate Professor at SUNY, Purchase, and on the side, the Film Reviewer for The New Leader. Recently she has moved back to New York City from Berkeley, California, where she had been living since 1984. There she was a practicing psychoanalyst, and a Visiting Professor at the University of California. In the spring of 2006 she taught in the graduate division of the New School. She taught at Bard College for the academic year 2006-2007.
